Matthew had his weekly lesson with his swing coach today. They mainly worked on the full swing and keeping his head still throughout the swing. When he doesn’t setup correctly he is more prone to dipping on the takeaway thus move the head horizontally leading to poor ball striking. He is aware of the issue […]
Yearly Archives: 2015
Matthew has been working hard as of late on the technical aspects of his swing, which can be a challenge for a 8 year old. Since the beginning of Matt’s foray into golf he was taught the 3/4 swing, but we have not visited it in quite a while. This week we have been concentrating […]
Another Saturday without a tournament, that can only mean 1 thing, Short Game Saturday. We got up earlier than normal to get to the course before the heavy rain, that was forecasted to hit us came. A hurricane and a cold front converging for some probable flooding was the forecast. We arrived at about 7am […]
Matthew continues to work on his swing flaw. Just a bit of a pull left. It has been a long road back from pulling it left 30 yards on a 100 yard shot. What a grueling 3 weeks. Let us see if he can keep it going during a competitive round. This last practice was […]
Matthew continues work on his take away and getting the club into the slot during the initial stages of the downswing. There are a combination of factors that prevent this from happening as it should mostly related to grip pressure, pausing at the top and getting all the way back. We lost sound on this […]
Just a quick update, Matthew doing his homework in the newly christened UIW PGM building, borrowing Coach Walling’s desk to get the deed done. This is a daily affair for Matt as his schoolwork comes first, before hitting the course. FYI Matt was moved up 1 grade in school and maintains a A/B+ average.
Matthew working on his short game today and we told him to hit over his cart and umbrella while putting it close to the hole. Challenge Accepted!
Matthew still working on eliminating the swing flaws that has plagued him over the past 3 weeks or so. It is getting very close to being solved . He shot a 39 yesterday at a STPGA event with the flaw only showing up about 3x during the round. The work continues.
Matthew played in another STPGA tournament today at Windcrest Golf Club. As your aware from previous updates, Matt has been struggling with some swing issues over the past 3 weeks, which have been improving each day. The real test is taking it to the course in a competitive situation. It seems as if the flaw […]
The Saturday Short Game Tour continues today with a trip to Windcrest Golf Club. Matthew will be competing here tomorrow in a STPGA event. What a perfect place to work on his short game today. Matthew spent time with his best friend “The Arc” a putting practice aid that he has been using since the […]
Matthew had his weekly lesson today. We are still working on the downward motion and swinging towards the target. As I said last week it seems to be getting better and more consistent. Will it hold up under tournament conditions, we shall see Sunday. When he does what he needs to there is no 8 […]
Matthew battling with Jose Adame (UIW Golf Team) . He loves to challenge the college players to short game contests. The best part is that he holds his own. Matthew continues to work with his swing coach daily to correct the issues that have been plaguing him as of late. It seems to be getting […]
Matthew played in the University of Incarnate Word yearly fundraiser today. This is his 2nd showing at the event and looks forward to it each year. He usually plays well in the event which is held in a scramble format. He hit some good shots today and helped the team. On the 17th hole a […]
Matthew played in another junior golf tournament put on by US Kids event held at Fair Oaks Country Club. He has been working the past 10 days or so on a swing issue that has come up. The changes are not completely evident as of yet, and looks to be not even close in a […]
Matthew had his weekly lesson today at Republic Golf Course. His Coach has been working with to fix his pull left. Over the past 3 weeks it had been getting worse culminating in a score of 47 at Olympia Hills Golf Course last Sunday (Watch the Round Here) When he is not pulling the ball […]
Matthew played in a US Kids tournament today held at Olympia Hills Golf Course. He has been fighting his move to the left and coming over the top. His coach and him are working hard on fixing the issue. The fix was not in place for this tournament and it showed. If he made the […]
Matthew was at the course early today working on his short game. We reserve Saturday mornings (non tournament days) to short game. He did putting drills for about 2 hours and then worked on his chipping for about a hour. He wanted to do some sand work, so he grabbed some balls and headed over. […]
Matthew hanging out after a practice round with World #10 Shiv Parmar (8 year old division) at Olympia Hills Golf Club. They had a good time on the course and hit the practice to work on their putting along with Shiv’s younger brother Aadi Parmr World #23 (6 year old division). Unfortunately the work turned […]
Matthew had his weekly lesson. They worked almost exclusively on Matthew keeping his left heel on the ground throughout the swing. On occasion he moves towards the ball vs. towards the left and thus gets up on his toes to increase the distance from the ball in order for the club to make contact with […]
Matthew continued his season today at Olmos Basin, playing in the 9-10 year old division. (remember he was moved up from the 7-8 year old even though he is still 8). He went into the event confident coming off his career round of 36 even par last week. I tried to temper expectations and I […]
