Matt back with his swing coach, working on the tempo and finish of his swing. Matt dong a good job at getting all the way through the shot, without a good finish ball striking will suffer.
In the past 4-5 tournaments Matt has been struggling with leaving himself long 2nd putts. Were talking 3-4 footers even from short distances. Not sure if it is nerves or just lack of focus. So this week we have been working on leaving putts inside a 1 foot circle. To add the the difficulty they […]
Back with another tournament a day after Matt posted his worst round of the season at Hyatt Hill Country Resort. He had a rough day yesterday and was poised to do better and prove that he can keep control of his emotions and anxiety. Playing from the further back tees, matt posted a 39 with […]
Matt playing in another STPGA event this time at Hyatt Hill Country Resort, Oaks Course. He had a rough warm up session and took those feelings out to the course with him where he continually set high expectations only to not meet them and get more and more frustrated. He played his worst round this […]
Matt playing in another STPGA event this time at Fort Sam Golf Course. We have been working on the mental side of the game and trying to over come perfection paralysis. The last couple weeks have been hard but we have been making progress. Came into today with a good grasp on the setup routine […]
Matt working with his coach today, mostly on setup and alignment. Not a whole lot wrong in this regard. But we constantly have to check the procedure and the outcome of the setup to stay on track.
After coming off a disappointing set of tournaments last weekend and Matt having a easy week at golf camp, he came into this STPGA event with the mindset to hold it together till the end and to follow his routine. He did a better job of not falling apart in the later holes. Even with […]
Matt getting a refresher on his bunker play. All comes down to setup and and finishing the swing. In the past couple weeks Matt was having some difficulty with his bunker play. Got plenty of practice and work done today.
Matt playing in a semi-local STPGA event at Corpus Christi Country Club. About 1.5 hours from our home, it was his spring break so we went down early got the round in and ran back to SATX. Coming off of his disappointing finish yesterday Matt strived to follow his routine better and to let imperfections […]
Matting playing in the 3rd US Kids event of the spring, this time at River Crossing. Coming off a win at Hyatt last week hoping to keep it rolling. He started well with even par through 5 holes with a birdie and a bogey, looking like all is good. Takes another bogey on 6 and the […]
Matt continuing to work on his putting. Doing the ladder drill to gain confidence in the stroke from varying distances. We mix up the drills weekly to keep boredom from setting in. This drill requires a good setup and a consistent stroke and speed to make it to the final ball and complete the drill. […]
The second US Kids event of the spring is upon us. He is now playing from the ladies tees and it looks as if we have done what needed to be done in regards to length before he moved back. He seems to be on par or longer than most of his competitors off the […]
Matt during his lesson working on his ball striking and setup. It all comes down to how often you can make the shot and that is dependent on your consistent setup and consistent swing. Matt working hard on both.
Matt playing in another STPGA event, this time in Austin at Onion Creek. Coming off a disappointing round yesterday at Sonterra, he knew what he needed to do mentally. Had a mental lapse on #3 and pulled two tee shots out of bounds to take a 10 on the hole. We had a quick talk […]
Matt starting out a new US Kids season this time from the Ladies Tee boxes. He has been playing well and was full of confidence going into the round. He started the round with a birdie on #1, bogey on #2 and double on #3. He is still allowing 1 shots’ outcome to affect the […]
Matt saw his coach again today for his weekly lesson. They watched his tournament round from last weekend and discussed what could be done better to achieve the scoring results he is looking for. They then proceeded to work on tightening up his setup and worked on general ball striking.
A couple years ago Matt made the transition from ultra light weight US Kids clubs to a more traditional iron and woods setup. He improved greatly along with his swing speed. In December we had our annual visit with Matt’s club fitter Mark at MK Golf. Matt has grown a good 4 inches in the […]
We have been working on Matt’s ability to focus in on the areas of his game that he struggles with. Wouldn’t we all love if it was actually a technical swing issue. Nothing wrong in that department. Matt is at the age of burgeoning independence. We are trying to garner that want and turn it […]
Another STPGA event this time a Landa Park Golf Course in New Braunfels. Coming off a career best tying round last week in Austin, Matt was feeling good about his round. Started the day off with making a long birdie putt on #1 and all was good. (Last 5 competitive holes all birdies). He got […]
Matthew continues to work on his short game at every opportunity. Saturdays are reserved for it exclusively. Today he worked on his stroke for a bit and then did quite a bit of work on 15 footers and even more work on chipping from 10-30 yards. He kept his focus and got some good work […]
