Saturday morning must mean another edition of Short Game Saturday. Matt has the first tournament of the season tomorrow at Golf Club of Texas, so we headed out to do SGS at the course. Matt working on his stroke and putting. Did a bunch of drills pertaining to gaining confidence. Practicing 15 footers in the […]
It’s Saturday without a tournament on the books, that can mean only 1 thing…. Short Game Saturday. Today we worked on putting exclusively. We did quite a bit of 2 putt practice, which included lag putting from 30-50 feet into a 3 foot circle and making the follow up to save par. All about the […]
Matt and I went out early on Thanksgiving to get some practice round work in. As with all practice rounds as of late, he has been teeing it up from the ladies tees. This is the position he will be playing from for US Kids coming this February in the 10 year old division. He […]
Matt had a Saturday off from tournament play so back to work on the short game. Cold front hit last night and temps were hovering around 50 degrees. Layer up and get out there. Matt working on his putting. We recently moved from 5 footers to 6 footers for his 300 putts a day. 200 […]
Every open Saturday we have we dedicate the practice to the short game. This Saturday was no different. We headed out to Hyatt Hill Country (site of his tournament tomorrow) to work on putting and chipping. Got some good work in on putting and some solid understanding and work in on his chipping. As usual […]
In the last tournament Matt had a few doubts and stumbles from in the bunker. Today we took time to work on some bunker shots around the green and some 3/4 swings as if in a fairway bunker. I think he has got the hang of it and towards the end his shots were getting […]
Matt continually working on his short game. Doing his daily putting and chipping drills. He is starting to show real consistency and confidence. Practice makes perfect (Perfect Practice)
While posting a previous lesson, i saw a photo of Matt’s swing and thought to myself not bad, which lead me to look into the vault and pull out some old videos and grab some screen shots of his previous years swing positions. 4 years old through this past summer. Enjoy.
Matt has been struggling a bit as of late with his lag putting, so today was a perfect time to get back to the drills that he used to do weekly. Grabbed a bucket of balls and put them out at 30 – 45 feet from a pin. Put down the 3 foot circle and […]
A tournament tomorrow to be held at Brackenridge Park. Matt and Shiv working on the putting green the evening before the event getting their speed down.
Matt doing a very “simple” drill that turns out to be difficult if ones process is not followed. Requires a level of focus that Matt did not knew existed. First time out took him about an hour to get 10 to drop in a row. Subsequent tries the learning curve kicked in. We did the […]
Matt working on his putting and chipping during another episode of Short Game Saturday. As the school year approaches and tournaments now shift to Saturday and Sunday, we will have to move SSS to the week somewhere.
Matthew working with his coach on ball striking. He is at the point in his swing were most things are technically correct, time for fine tuning. Doing drills to promote a good turn away from the ball which leads to everything else.
Matt continuing to work on his short game and putting. Saturday is short game day, all about touch and feel. What does it take to be comfortable from around the greens?, spending lots of time on them and self belief.
Matthew had his buddy Jackson over for our weekly installment of Saturday Short Game. The boys worked on putting, chipping and up / down drills for a couple hours. Then headed off the simulator to battle it out.
Matt played a practice round with a friend today at Republic Golf Club. Him and Jackson played for the ladies tees (Jackson moves back to white for par 3s) in a late Friday round. Both played pretty good, but could been better. Matt had 3 birdies and 3 doubles. They both finished up 3 over […]
Saturday has always been short game practice day. Today is no different. Matt doing short game drills and games designed to sharpen his touch and increase his confidence. He spends a good 3-4 hours in the morning before the heat working hard. Matthew’s dog Red came along to keep us company.
Matthew working on his short game. We have been doing alot of work to bolster his touch around the greens. Red, his dog, is not impressed 🙂
After checking the statistics of 2016 Starburst Junior Classic, we found that his short game was the culprit, in particularly his chipping. Brad got to work immediately to remedy the problem. Matt worked hard today for 2 hours on his chipping and up / down drills.
Matthew’s game is getting to the point where there is not much to fix technically. Sure there are things that need to be improved, but nothing big. Gaining confidence in his skill sets though, is one area where alot of improvement can be made. We design the drills that he does based on building this […]
