Matthew still working on eliminating the swing flaws that has plagued him over the past 3 weeks or so. It is getting very close to being solved . He shot a 39 yesterday at a STPGA event with the flaw only showing up about 3x during the round. The work continues.
The Saturday Short Game Tour continues today with a trip to Windcrest Golf Club. Matthew will be competing here tomorrow in a STPGA event. What a perfect place to work on his short game today. Matthew spent time with his best friend “The Arc” a putting practice aid that he has been using since the […]
Matthew battling with Jose Adame (UIW Golf Team) . He loves to challenge the college players to short game contests. The best part is that he holds his own. Matthew continues to work with his swing coach daily to correct the issues that have been plaguing him as of late. It seems to be getting […]
Matthew was at the course early today working on his short game. We reserve Saturday mornings (non tournament days) to short game. He did putting drills for about 2 hours and then worked on his chipping for about a hour. He wanted to do some sand work, so he grabbed some balls and headed over. […]
A Saturday without a tournament can only mean 1 thing. Saturday is Short Game Day. We decided to go to Olmos to practice short game seeing how he has a tournament there on Sunday. In short the greens were horrible and just getting through the drills was painful. If you didn’t roll the ball precisely […]
Matt played a practice round a Olmos Basin Golf Course today after school. He will be competing in a STPGA event there Sunday afternoon. He played well had a bit of trouble on a couple holes resulting in a 3 over par 39. Fairly solid. To be expected with no warm up and him not […]
Matthew still working on his lateral bump. Allowing his hands to drop during the move while keeping his knees apart. Everything we are working on now will lead to more consistency. He also played 1 and 9 today with a score of +1. He played the holes by himself, while Brad and I just watched […]
Matt spent his Sunday practice time working on his putting for the Drive, Chip and Putt Regionals coming up on the 13th in Houston. He is really starting to get confident with the distances. We shall see if can remain confident when the pressure is on.
Matthew working on his putting stroke and chipping distances. Nice to see overall progress. His putting drills (he has been doing the same drills for over a year now) look so effortless on his part and his ability to control the distance of his chips is also looking pretty easy.
Matthew played a practice round today with his mother working on some of the issues that arose during his tournament yesterday. He didnt play great but i think he made some realizations about what is going on and started to get to the root of the issue. Even while working on it, he took care […]
Matthew played 9 holes this afternoon and carded a 39 from US Kids Worlds distances. He is gaining a lot of confidence as of late. The 39 was with 3, 3 putts on greens that were just punched and sanded. Needless to say they were very very slow.
Matthew had a rough morning mentally trying to focus for the first half of his putting practice. This is how it is with 8 year old golfers. Some days it is good and some days it is bad. The work must still go on. He does quite a few push ups because of his mouth […]
Drive Chip and Putt, putting practice. The contest has set distances for the putts. So we have been practicing those distances. 6, 15 and 30 feet.
Matt, his mother, father and coach played a Sunday afternoon practice round. He played well with 2 birdies (1 chip in) and shot 39. He took care of his mother, lost by 1 stroke to his father and 2 to his coach. The time is coming when he will beat us all regularly. Let’s enjoy […]
Matthew back at the course this morning working on his putting and his chipping. I forgot the video camera but got this clip. He spent a good 3 hours working hard this morning.
Matthew attended another golf summer camp this week. Culminating in a round with the other participants. First time he has played holes without me present. He teed off from the Ladies tees and shot 4 over. Not bad. (Thanks to Chris Martinz for the photos.)
Matt continuing to work on the stroke and setup.
Matt going through his putting drills, while in the Philippines.
Matthew working on his swing at the range in Davao. While we were on vacation, I tried to get Matt to the range / golf course 2-3 times per week. He loved the fact that he had a “ball girl” and even if he did’t gain anything during the trip, he didn’t lose anything.
During our trip to the Philippines Matt continued to work on his game. Today he did some stretching and mirror work at the country club’s gym.
