Matt’s Fair Oaks tournament today was cancelled on the account of strong thunderstorms in the area. The video attached is of his chipping warm up before the storms started.
After shooting a 4 over par round of 40 and being in a tie for 13th during the first round of the tournament, Matthew was optimistic that he could move up. We tried to temper his expectations by telling him that we would love to see another 40 and he should not expect too […]
Matthew qualified for the first time to the next tier of junior golf tournaments. We have been receiving invites to events all over the world, including the World Championships. We had already decided earlier this year that Matt would not compete (or be ready to compete) at this level until next year. Having decided […]
Matthew playing at Northcliffe again. Shoots 47 and gets 3rd place. Putting got him once again.
Matthew played in a US Kids event held at Cedar Creek Golf Course today. He did not have his A game but managed a 3rd place. The up and down slopes of the course, causing uneven lies cost him along with some 3 putts.
Matt played in another US Kids event, this time at Fort Sam. He is still trying to come to grips with tournament golf and getting over performance anxiety. As before the first 3-4 holes are killing him then magically he plays as good as anyone for the last 4-5 holes. This time he started out […]
Matthew had his first tourney back with his new clubs. The range was closed and the course was super wet. He got first place with a sub par effort. Needs more work with relaxing while putting and some more chipping time. But the swing is coming along.
Matthew had a tournament at Cedar Creek today. Rest of family out of town so no video, but Matthew continued to wrestle with nervousness and the ability to not over swing. He placed 2nd playing badly. Lost by 15.
This morning started out with a confusion on all parts. I discussed going to “early mass” with Neneng, but miscommunication had us missing that then running across town to get to another church, then instead of Riverside, I got River Crossing stuck in my head and drove a hour out of our way before the […]
Matthew, after a week of working with Brad and Grandpa exclusively (I was out of town) showed up at Olympia Hills for a US Kids event. Matt started the round well and held it all together until the 8th hole where he carded a 8. That 8 is with a 50 foot putt made. He […]
Matthew played at Sonterra today in a US Kids event. Sayers and Shiv were in attendance. Matthew kept it together for 6 holes being only 1 behind Shiv. Came the to the 7th hole par three, hit a perfect 8 iron 10 feet below the hole and then proceeded to 4 putt and lost it […]
Matthew played at Sonterra in the 8 year old division today. He shot 50 and got 2nd place. He left a lot of strokes out there on the course. In the same breath his good shots are getting much better. We are down to consistency and believing and trusting his stroke. The work continues.
Matthew playing in his first 8 year old division event, held at Dominion Country Club. He has been playing well carding a 39 only yesterday. He played with Shiv (one of the top Jr.s in the area) He started off good but then came off the rails and was not able to reel his emotions […]
The end of the fall season of golf is upon us and Matthew played in the season ending championship held at Fort Sam Golf Club. Going into the tournament Matthew was leading the points race for the 7 year old title. He finished first in the tournament and finished first in the point tally for […]
Matthew played in another US Kids tournament today at Republic Golf Club. He had some troubles on the first 3 holes and then proceeded to shoot even par for the last 6 holes.
Matthew played another US Kids event today at River Crossing, in Spring Branch, TX. He was the only 7 year old in the field so the director pulled a 8 year old for him to play with. It was cold and drizzling all day. Matt mustered up a 37, 1 over par with 4 Birdies, […]
Matt has been working on his game. Chipping and putting are far above average, full swing is coming along. Makes it hard when hes playing 300 yard par 4s, while only hitting his driver on a good strike 150. Still placing in the tourney with the length is promising.
Matthew played in another USKids event held at Cedar Creek. He played better still, but still had some issues. He had 5 3 putts and got a 8 on a par, but also had a putt for eagle and ended up birdieing it.
Matt was out playing another STPGA event, this time at River Crossing. There were 12 entries in the 6-9 year old (modified 9) division. The STPGA had the course set up long and when I say long I mean there were a couple par 4s at about 300 yards. None of us could understand it […]
Matthew played in a STPGA event today with Nathan Marion (one of the top 9 year olds in San Antonio) and Shiv Parmar (the 7th best 7 year old in the world) Matthew still struggling with his head movement was given a clinic by the #1 and #2 seed in the tournament. He saw first hand how […]
