A Saturday without a tournament can only mean 1 thing. Saturday is Short Game Day. We decided to go to Olmos to practice short game seeing how he has a tournament there on Sunday. In short the greens were horrible and just getting through the drills was painful. If you didn’t roll the ball precisely […]
Matt played a practice round a Olmos Basin Golf Course today after school. He will be competing in a STPGA event there Sunday afternoon. He played well had a bit of trouble on a couple holes resulting in a 3 over par 39. Fairly solid. To be expected with no warm up and him not […]
Matthew had his best round to date last Sunday during a STPGA event, held at Riverside Golf Course. He shot a even par 36 for the first time on his 9 hole round. This only happens 1 time in a career. Made it special. Enjoy (1 additional pic inside)
Matthew played in a STPGA event held at Riverside Golf Course. Due to when his birthday is, he has been moved up to the 9-10 year old division (even though he is 8 until December 2). We have been working hard on his mental approach to the game and trying to stay in the right […]
Matthew played today in a US Kids event at Brackenridge Park Golf Course. He has been working on his consistency with his golf swing as it pertains to his ability to bring the range to the course. He is also working on his emotions and keeping them in check as he moves around the course […]
Matthew still working on his lateral bump. Allowing his hands to drop during the move while keeping his knees apart. Everything we are working on now will lead to more consistency. He also played 1 and 9 today with a score of +1. He played the holes by himself, while Brad and I just watched […]
Matthew working with his coach on tempo and keeping his heels on the ground during the forward transition. Has to bump more horizontal. It is the small things now that will lead to more consistency. Right now he sits at about 2 out of 3 shots good, still 1 out of 3 there is a […]
Matthew was invited to the Regional Championships for the Drive Chip and Putt national competition. He advanced through a local and a sub-regional competition in order to gain the invite. The Regional was held at the Golf Club of Houston (host of the Shell Houston Open). We traveled down on Friday so that he get […]
Matt spent his Sunday practice time working on his putting for the Drive, Chip and Putt Regionals coming up on the 13th in Houston. He is really starting to get confident with the distances. We shall see if can remain confident when the pressure is on.
Matthew working on his putting stroke and chipping distances. Nice to see overall progress. His putting drills (he has been doing the same drills for over a year now) look so effortless on his part and his ability to control the distance of his chips is also looking pretty easy.
Just a quick update to let you all know, Matt is still going at it almost daily. Picking up ground quickly. He is working on his DCP skill sets. We go to Houston 1 week from now to compete in the Regionals. The winner of his division goes to The Masters in the spring.
Matthew once again had his weekly lesson. Forgot the video camera, but snapped this shot as Matt and his coach worked on keeping his feet grounded through out the swing.
Matthew competed in a US Kids tournament today at Fort Sam Golf Club. He has been working hard on tightening up his swing. He has also been working hard on the the emotional / mental side of his game. As with any sport it takes time to be able to compete at the highest level. […]
Matthew played a practice round today with his mother working on some of the issues that arose during his tournament yesterday. He didnt play great but i think he made some realizations about what is going on and started to get to the root of the issue. Even while working on it, he took care […]
Matthew played the fall season opener today at Sonterra. He has been playing well as of late and went to the tourney with high hopes. Unfortunately he is still unable to take it from the range / practice rounds to tournaments. Nothing wrong with swing or game. This is the hard part of tournament golf, […]
Was messing around and put together a swing progression on Matt from the rear over the years. Enjoy.
Matthew worked with Coach Martin on his swing today, specifically on allowing the club to fall vs. pulling it down to the ball. Continuing his quest to become a better ball striker.
Matthew played 9 holes this afternoon and carded a 39 from US Kids Worlds distances. He is gaining a lot of confidence as of late. The 39 was with 3, 3 putts on greens that were just punched and sanded. Needless to say they were very very slow.
Matthew had a rough morning mentally trying to focus for the first half of his putting practice. This is how it is with 8 year old golfers. Some days it is good and some days it is bad. The work must still go on. He does quite a few push ups because of his mouth […]
