Matt back at it, this time in a STPGA event held at Landa Park. He was paired with Shiv once again. Had a bogey, birdie start and that would be prevalent throughout the day. Up and down. He finished up with 3 birdies and 4 bogies. Just couldn’t talk himself into some shots which resulted […]

Matt back at Brackenridge for a make up round that was cancelled by lightning a few weeks ago. Matt has been playing well and gaining confidence in himself and his game. He has been working hard as usual on his faults. We were here last night practicing short game with Jackson Bade and got some […]
While posting a previous lesson, i saw a photo of Matt’s swing and thought to myself not bad, which lead me to look into the vault and pull out some old videos and grab some screen shots of his previous years swing positions. 4 years old through this past summer. Enjoy.
Matt had his weekly lesson today. Coach Martin always watches his tournaments and we picked out a couple things to work on from last weekends tournaments. Good shoulder turn and keeping his swing at 3/4 when needed. Matt then proceeded to get in his 300 5 foot putts that he does daily.
Matt has been struggling a bit as of late with his lag putting, so today was a perfect time to get back to the drills that he used to do weekly. Grabbed a bucket of balls and put them out at 30 – 45 feet from a pin. Put down the 3 foot circle and […]
Found another picture of Matthew featured on a Junior golf site, discussing the need for juniors to learn to putt before all else. I agree, completely it is the corner stone of the game and without it a player is lost. We got mesmerized wit the swing and hitting the ball long and forget the […]
Back in Austin for another US Kids event. Matt paired with Shiv again today. Matt played better today than yesterday but still had a few hiccups. Finished in tie with Shiv for 2nd place. We have to lower the amount of bogies that Matt is getting from silly mistakes. Next weekend more tournies, the work […]
Matt playing in another US Kids event this time at Northern Hills. As of late the only thing stopping Matt is Matt. He is trying hard to contain his emotions and to handle the self inflicted pressure of tournament golf. Every tournament golfer faces the same demons. He didn’t play bad and didn’t play up […]
Matt competing in another STPGA event, this time at Forest Creek in Round Rock, TX. He played well with me giving him more responsibility for his game and probably some much needed room. We shall see if he can continue to grow on this branch. He played well shooting 2 under par and getting back […]
Matt playing in a STPGA event in Corpus Christie, Oso Beach. He started off pretty badly for the first 3 holes and then got ahold of himself and played the last 6 holes 2 under par. H finished at 2 over par, not enough to take home the win. Tomorrow we are in Austin for […]
After a rough day yesterday in San Antonio, today we are in Austin for another US Kids event. Matt had a tough time with the slopes of Cedar Creek, today we get another chance with more sloping fairways and lies. He did better on the emotional front but still had some break downs that lead […]
Matthew still playing dual tours (San Antonio and Austin) today we are at Cedar Creek, a course where Matt has had historical difficulty. A course where if you are not on top of your game, focus wise, will have it’s way with you. The varying lies and slopes is what typically does you in. As […]
Matt is playing in the Austin US Kids season this fall and we made the trip up for the first event of the year. The course was very hilly and was a monster to walk. Matthew was not able to keep his focus in place yet again, which led to a pretty miserable day. The […]
A tournament tomorrow to be held at Brackenridge Park. Matt and Shiv working on the putting green the evening before the event getting their speed down.
Matthew played in a Charity scramble held at Fair Oaks Ranch. Highlight of the day was a “ball launcher” that shot golf balls about 250 yards. He shot his about 8 feet from the hole and ended up getting Eagle on the hole.
Matthew played pretty well considering the course conditions. He had only 1 bad hole, where 1 swing cost him a triple bogey. The bad swing put him in a horrible position and then his emotional state took over and wouldn’t allow him to regain control. Again he should of easily shot par on the day.
Matthew had a rough day with his emotions and expectation levels. He limped in with a 2nd place 42, easily should have shot par. We continue to work on the expectation level and confidence in the ability to save par in every situation.
Matt doing a very “simple” drill that turns out to be difficult if ones process is not followed. Requires a level of focus that Matt did not knew existed. First time out took him about an hour to get 10 to drop in a row. Subsequent tries the learning curve kicked in. We did the […]
No local tournaments this Labor Day weekend, so we hopped in the family truckster and set out for Alice, Tx about 2 hours south. Was a early morning trip with Matt’s tee time about 8am. Matt played pretty well, still working on some focus issues and being able to recover from self perceived “bad shots” […]
Matthew working with his coach on his swing plane. Still trying to get the club a bit more upright.
