Matthew played his first round by himself today. All his coach did was give him yardage to hole and then drove away. Fairly decent, he made some questionable choices that could of bitten him. But I think that this is a step on the path of him gaining the self confidence to be what he […]
It is Saturday, which means short game practice day. Matthew breezed through his Arc putting drills today without issue. Impending weather changes took place at 9am. The wind kicked up and made putting very testy. Matt again worked on his around the clock putting from 10 feet tying his best of 5 in the hole. […]
Matthew putting in the work after school today. Working with his swing coach, in preparation for the December tournaments that are upcoming. Cleaning up some technical faults in the down swing.
Matthew was back at it this morning, working on the putting stroke and then working on suggested drills from his putting lesson earlier in the week. He like the new drills. He also worked a bit on alignment on full shots.
Matthew was out early again on Saturday morning doing his short game drills. We had a cold front move in last night which had the temperatures down and the wind gusting up to 30 from the North. Not exactly ideal conditions for putting drills 😉 He learned even with is best friend, “The Arc”, when […]
Matthew continuing to work hard daily on his tempo and swing mechanics. Coach has been putting in overtime leading up to the Fall championships in a couple weeks and Matt’s impending regional tournament in December. Seeing it on a daily basis it is hard to keep in perspective the progress.
We are testing a new tool for the automatic collection of statistics for Matthew’s game. These devices fit in the grip of Matt’s clubs and are bluetooth enabled. The software on your phone knows what club is being used and takes GPS coordinates at each swing and calculates distances per club and location swing was […]
Matthew continuing work on his short game early in the morning. We switched up the putting drills a bit. He is now doing 50 on the arc, 75 with guides and 50 without guides. These were all from 5 feet. So the putting is getting much better. He seems to be able to concentrate on […]
It was raining for the past day and the range was a mud pit. So instead of losing a day, we just had to head indoors to work on the sim. Matthew working hard on the technical aspects of his swing, loving the instant feedback. He is starting to learn the correlation between the angles […]
Matthew has been working hard as of late on the technical aspects of his swing, which can be a challenge for a 8 year old. Since the beginning of Matt’s foray into golf he was taught the 3/4 swing, but we have not visited it in quite a while. This week we have been concentrating […]
Another Saturday without a tournament, that can only mean 1 thing, Short Game Saturday. We got up earlier than normal to get to the course before the heavy rain, that was forecasted to hit us came. A hurricane and a cold front converging for some probable flooding was the forecast. We arrived at about 7am […]
Matthew continues to work on his swing flaw. Just a bit of a pull left. It has been a long road back from pulling it left 30 yards on a 100 yard shot. What a grueling 3 weeks. Let us see if he can keep it going during a competitive round. This last practice was […]
Matthew working on his short game today and we told him to hit over his cart and umbrella while putting it close to the hole. Challenge Accepted!
Matthew still working on eliminating the swing flaws that has plagued him over the past 3 weeks or so. It is getting very close to being solved . He shot a 39 yesterday at a STPGA event with the flaw only showing up about 3x during the round. The work continues.
The Saturday Short Game Tour continues today with a trip to Windcrest Golf Club. Matthew will be competing here tomorrow in a STPGA event. What a perfect place to work on his short game today. Matthew spent time with his best friend “The Arc” a putting practice aid that he has been using since the […]
Matthew battling with Jose Adame (UIW Golf Team) . He loves to challenge the college players to short game contests. The best part is that he holds his own. Matthew continues to work with his swing coach daily to correct the issues that have been plaguing him as of late. It seems to be getting […]
Matthew was at the course early today working on his short game. We reserve Saturday mornings (non tournament days) to short game. He did putting drills for about 2 hours and then worked on his chipping for about a hour. He wanted to do some sand work, so he grabbed some balls and headed over. […]
A Saturday without a tournament can only mean 1 thing. Saturday is Short Game Day. We decided to go to Olmos to practice short game seeing how he has a tournament there on Sunday. In short the greens were horrible and just getting through the drills was painful. If you didn’t roll the ball precisely […]
Matt played a practice round a Olmos Basin Golf Course today after school. He will be competing in a STPGA event there Sunday afternoon. He played well had a bit of trouble on a couple holes resulting in a 3 over par 39. Fairly solid. To be expected with no warm up and him not […]
Matthew still working on his lateral bump. Allowing his hands to drop during the move while keeping his knees apart. Everything we are working on now will lead to more consistency. He also played 1 and 9 today with a score of +1. He played the holes by himself, while Brad and I just watched […]
